Virginia Delegate Reaffirms Support for Abortion Rights Law Despite Death Threats

Virginia Delegate Kathy Tran, cosponsor of the new law easing restrictions on abortion services, defended her position, despite receiving multiple death threats. The bill passed the Virginia General Assembly and was signed into law in February, notwithstanding fierce pushback from the United States Council of Catholic Bishops and the Virginia Catholic Conference. Since the law was enacted, Delegate Tran has been forced to take additional security measures to protect herself and her four elementary- and preschool-aged children. This did not stop her from posting a video to social media in which she described her efforts to “make sure that politicians don’t get between a woman and her healthcare decisions” and pledged to “continue to stand with the women in Virginia.”
